Artist Spotlight: Eryn Allen Kane

New singer-songwriter, Eryn Allen Kane, just released her jazz-influenced EP entitled "Aviary: Act1." The EP, which is only four songs, consist of the normal jazz instruments, horns and pianos, with a not so normal vocalist. Being born in Detroit, and partly in Chicago, it is clear that Kane has brought her city influences into her music. Although being somewhat out of her teens, her voice seems to be one of experience and maturity. Check out her new EP on WNJR Radio 91.7 FM.

If you want to hear music by some of the artists that are going to be there, then be sure to tune in to Bad Dance Moves on 91.7 WNJR on Monday nights at 10PM. I'm a Happy Camper

Hoodie Allen - Happy Camper Tour 2015

Hey all! It's Danielle here to tell ya about some new music. Last night at 9 PM while I was scheduling for next semester's classes, Hoodie Allen was dropping some huge announcements on Twitter. You might recall a few weeks ago when I highlighted his new singles "Let It All Work Out" and "The Moment" and predicted that Hoodie would be announcing a new album in the near future. Sure enough, Hoodie will be blessing us all with his newest release "Happy Camper" online for free download! As exciting as that news is, it gets better - he also announced tour dates today at noon. See ya on March 17th at Stage AE, Hoodie!

Be Safe. Show Love

From WNJR to all people in the World- be safe. The terrorist attacks all over the world is a tragedy. Back in April 147 people were killed in Kenya at a college due to terrorism. Let us not forget the lives lost all over. Remember to show love and live everyday like your last. One of the reasons I listen to music is because when music hits you, you feel no pain (Bob Marley). WNJR is a great way to keep up with current events and still be relaxed by the music.

Gaming Den

Hey, Hey, Hey, Everybody,
Welcome to the Gaming Den

Today I would like to talk about a game called, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. This game is a crossover, beat-em up game where you can play as your favorite Nintendo character, such as Link, Mario, or Gannondorf, and you can beat up on the other characters, who may be real people or AI, in a match to see who is the best.

I played this game recently with a friend, and boy did I suck, I lost every match against him. Although I did get close to winning multiple times, especially when I used Shulk or used the items, but in the end, it didn't even matter. This game is good game for a party night, just for the sake of getting everybody involved, especially with how it sports 8 player multiplayer, where in previous installments it was capped at 4. Overall it was an enjoyable game, with much fun to be had. Unlike Superman 64 which is a wreck of a game I played on my previous post, located here.

Artist Spotlight: Alex Vaughn

Some say that neo-soul is slowly going away. That artists such as Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu no longer exist. However, Alex Vaughn seems to prove the pessimists wrong. "The 4PM Mix"just dropped last week and Vaughn's old school sound is taking wave. In 2015, there is safe to say that no new artist sounds like her. Take a look at her new mixtape on 91.7FM WNJR Radio.

Gaming Den

Hey, Hey, Hey, Everybody
Welcome to the Gaming Den

Today I will talk about one of the worst Nintendo games ever made, which is Superman 64. There are many issues with this game such as lack of tutorial, poor controls, and glitches, ohhhh glitches galore.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/ea/Superman_shield.svg/1280px-Superman_shield.svg.png
Source: Wikipedia

When you start the game you are just thrown into the level that has rings in front with no instructions on how to even start flying. And even when you do start flying you handling is very poor. And even with the glitches, it is very easy for ingame objects (superman, trucks, keys) to fall out of the map and be inaccessible.

If you are mean enough to yourself you could watch an ongoing let’s play of this game by ProtonJon on YouTube here

Artist Spotlight: Kehlani

If you are craving the classic R&B that reminds you of love lost, and love gained, you should definitely listen Kehlani. Her new style of music will have you empowered in independence; teaching to set your standards high. She reminds me a lot of Jhene Aiko; both self-assured in themselves and use their music as a means to express their perspective on love while demanding their respect. Kehlani speaks truth and is unapologetic, she attempts to pass on good vibes to all her listeners and encourages greatness. Her song title "You Should Be Here"talks about how her lover is present but not emotionally here. Kehlani's musicality is so powerful it inspires fans all over to recognize their situations and the power they have in them. If want an experience like no other, mixing the new school feel and old school class and swagger, isten to Kehlani.

A Head Full Of Upcoming Releases

So guys. I'm pretty sure the last time I was anticipating so much new music was the end of August when Halsey, The Weeknd, and a multitude of other artists released new albums at the same time. We have so many new albums to look forward to in the next few months - here is a quick rundown of some upcoming releases I'm most excited about!

Justin Bieber "Purpose" - November 13th
PHOENIX
With four tracks produced by Skrillex, a Jack Ü feature, a track with Halsey, and four great singles already released, I couldn't be more pumped for the Biebz new album to come out on Friday!

Coldplay "A Head Full of Dreams"- December 4th
For me, Coldplay has always been a band that I really enjoyed and listened to occasionally, but never necessarily one of my favorites. However, their new single "Adventure of a Lifetime" (released on November 6th) has me thinking that this album might just change that. This album is rumored to have support by Beyoncé, Tove Lo, and a number of other talented artists - I can't wait to hear more.

Panic! at the Disco "Death of a Bachelor" - January 15th
Panic at the Disco Death of a Bachelor.jpg
Maybe its just Brendon Urie's smooth, versatile voice, but somehow Panic! changes up their vibe on every album without losing their overall feel. With three singles and one kick ass music video released from this album so far, I'm pumped to hear more of Panic's newest masterpiece!

Other releases to look out for:
Alessia Cara "Know-It-All" - November 13th
Adele "25" - November 20th
G-Eazy "When It's Dark Out" - December 4th
The 1975 "I Like It When You Sleep, You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It" - February 26th

Personally, I'm also (im)patiently awaiting an upcoming album announcement from Weezer. With two incredible singles released in the past few weeks, I am at the edge of my seat waiting to hear when they will be coming out with a new album. In the mean time, I'll have "Do You Wanna Get High?" on repeat. I'll be sure to keep you all posted every Monday. Have a great week, everyone!

Global Perspectives with Joseph Jorjoliani and Sarah Gunn

Last Friday November 6, Global Perspectives hosted a beautiful young lady from the United Kingdom, Sarah Gunn. Sarah is an exchange student from Scotland who spends just a single semester at Washington and Jefferson College, expanding her education in the field of history.
Sarah has very strong and interesting opinions about social issues; she shared her huge disappointment in how Scottish people voted in favor of staying in the UK last year and how she advocated for separation of Scotland from the United Kingdom.

Artist Spotlight: Jeremy Foster

New artist fresh out of Chicago named Jeremy Foster has released his new (and first) single entitled "Love You Anyway." The track consists of Jeremy pleading to his significant other that love is all that matters and not the opinions of others ("forget what all the haters say", he repeatedly croons). Foster switches from a tenor to a milky falsetto easily throughout the song, showcasing his range. I can only sit back and wait to see what this new artist has to offer us in the future. In the meantime, tune into WNJR Radio 91.7 for a listen to his new single.

Great Week for New Music

Hey everyone I hope your week is going well so far!  It has been a great week for new music from some of my favorite artists.  Alternative bands Cage the Elephant, Panic! at the Disco, and Imagine Dragons are blessing everyone with some new releases.  Cage the Elephant is planning on releasing their new album "Tell Me I'm Pretty" this December, and they have recently released a song off of the album called "Mess Around."  Cage the Elephant has always been a favorite band of mine, and this new song has me counting down the days until the rest of the album is released.

Panic at the Disco Death of a Bachelor.jpg

Panic! at the Disco is also releasing a new album  titled "Death of a Bachelor" in January of 2016.  With the new songs "Victorious" and "Emperor's New Clothes," I am sure that the new album won't disappoint!  While you guys are checking out these new albums, I also suggest you check out Imagine Dragons single "Roots."  I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your week, and be sure the tune in on Monday nights at 10PM to Bad Dance Moves to hear some of these new songs!

Spotlight on Jess Perman

Hello gorgeous listeners of WNJR Radio! I hope you're all having a great Wednesday. Today is the day for a spotlight and today's is Jess Perman. Jess is a sophomore here at Dub Jay (clearly) and is majoring in Biology on the Pre-Health track. Jess also works here at WNJR Radio and she's our PSA Director. For all those wondering, Jess' job is to put important Public Service Announcements from the March of Dimes and other organizations into our system. Interesting fact, Jess also co-hosts a radio show with Danielle Shellgren called Bad Dance Moves at 10PM on Mondays. Now, if you guys are ever wondering what it's like to work at WNJR or want to know just a little more about Jess you can email her here. I hope you guys have a great Wednesday and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Albums to be on the look out for :
  1.
Trenton P "So ILL" is definitely a hot album. His rap skills are pretty dope and you can't help but to bob your head as the beat plays through your headphones. There is definitely a couple songs on there for the ladies as well, which I personally loveeee ! I probably listened to this album a good four times now ....

 2.    Mega Ran "RNDM" is a 'must-listen'. I'm pretty sure I was    able to let this album play through, no skips or fast-forwards. With this being his seventh official release, he makes it clear that he's no rookie in this Hip-Hop game. Don't let this one slip by you, go listen now !!

    3.

I know we all remember Nappy Roots ?! They are definitely someone that makes it hard for you to forget them. Their newest release, "The 40 Akerz Project" definitely has some hot jams on it. Take a listen and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Bahja Rodriguez is a rising artist. But she will soon be widely known due to her amazing vocals and unique composition of beats. Her music resonates with young girls around the country. Global Perspectives with Joseph Jorjoliani and Amanda Murimba

Last Friday, October 31st Global Perspectives hosted Amanda Murimba from the Republic of South Africa. Amanda is an exchange student who is spending this fall semester at W&J, she is here to extend her knowledge in the fields of Communication Arts and Computer Information Science.
Amanda has already spent 2 months at our beautiful institution and is very grateful to have this opportunity to meet with professors and students not only from the US but all over the globe.
Of course, Amanda also faced a challenging quiz on Global Perspectives but her quiz was different from the others. Joseph offered her a pre-quiz on the listing of African countries which she lost 45 to 17. Joseph and Amanda had to list the African countries in 4 minutes as the song from South Africa - The Saga by Anatii feat Aka played on air.
Unfortunately, Amanda lost the final quiz on "How well you think you know your country", and left the station without a WNJR T-shirt. However, she shared many interesting facts about South Africa and discussed current student movement that marched against the tuition increase in South African institutions.

Gaming Den

Hey, Hey, Hey, Everybody
Welcome to the Gaming Den

During the month of November, I, The Ravanator, will mix things up. Normally I would play the soundtrack of a specific game, but since this is November I thought it would be a good idea to run with "No Structure November" (like No Shave November). So I will be randomly selecting songs from my phone, which has 500+ files of video game songs, and play them for you listeners out there.

TYPE SOME RANDOM WORDS HERE
